Error message when you try to enable the multiuser functionality in Microsoft Office Accounting: "There was an error executing the requested operation"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to enable the multiuser functionality in Microsoft Office Accounting, you receive the following message:
There was an error executing the requested operation.
This problem occurs in the following products:
  • Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2009
  • Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2009
  • Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2008
  • Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2008
  • Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2007
  • Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Application log in the Event Viewer is full. Therefore, the informational messages cannot be logged when you enable the multiuser functionality.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Change the settings of the Application log in the Event Viewer to enable the Overwrite events as needed feature. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr, and then click OK.
  2. In the Event Viewer dialog box, right-click Application, and then click Properties.
  3. In the Application Properties dialog box, click Overwrite events as needed in the Log size pane, and then click Apply.

Method 2

Clear the contents of the Application log. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type eventvwr, and then click OK.
  2. In the Event Viewer dialog box, right-click Application, and then click Clear all Events.

    You receive the following message:
    Do you want to save "Application" before clearing it?
  3. Click Yes if you want to save the log. Click No if you want to permanently delete the current log.
