Symptom 1
Consider the following scenario:
- You are running Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, or
Windows Server 2008 on a computer that has a multi-core processor
installed.
- You put the computer on standby and then you resume the
computer.
- You put the computer on standby again and then you try to
resume the computer.
In this scenario, the computer stops responding (hangs), and the
monitor never turns on again.
Symptom 2
Consider the following scenario:
- You have a computer that is running Windows Vista Service
Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008.
- The computer has multiple processors installed.
- You restart the computer.
In this scenario, the computer may stop responding at the
Windows Start screen.
Symptom 3
Consider the following scenario:
- You have a Host Bus Adapter (HBA) connected to disks.
- You put the computer in hibernation and then resume it.
In this scenario, when the computer resumes, you receive one of the following Stop errors:
0x77 [KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR]
0x7A [KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR]
This occurs because the input/output Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (I/O APIC), which routes interrupts for the HBA, has all the INTI lines masked. Their vectors are initialized to 0xFF. So even when the HBA completes the
INPAGE commands, the interrupt is never signaled.
Symptom 4
When you put a computer in hibernation and then resume it, you receive the following Stop error:
0x9F [DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE]
The driver on which you receive this Stop error may be indirectly waiting for some other driver for a lock. The other driver is waiting for an interrupt to be signaled. However, the interrupt will never be signaled because the I/O APIC that routes the interrupts has all INTI lines masked and all the vectors set to 0xFF.
Symptom 5
When you put a computer in hibernation and then resume it, the system will reboot after the resuming screen with no errors. After this the system will boot normally.
