Error message when you try to add a member server to an Application Center 2000 cluster: "Error: The cluster operation returned a failure. 0xC0140003"
When you try to add a member server to an existing Microsoft Application Center 2000 cluster, you receive the following error message:
Error:
The cluster operation returned a failure.
0xC0140003
This server is already part of a cluster. Try a different servrname (0xC0140003)
This problem occurs if the Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase includes details about clusters that existed previously.
To resolve this problem, you must use a command to clear the old information from the IIS metabase. You must run this command on the member server that you want to add. To do this, follow these steps:
- At a command prompt on the member server, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
AC Cluster /Clean
Important Make sure that you do not use this command on the cluster controller. - Add the member server to the cluster.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
