Error message when the Application Center 2000 CLB service does not start: "Failed to obtain catalog data. %1%0"

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Application Center 2000 Component Load Balancing (CLB) service does not start. Additionally, you receive an event error message that resembles the following in the Application log:
Event ID: 4099
Source: CLBService
Type: Error
Description:
Failed to obtain catalog data. %1%0
This event error message means that the COM+ CLB service received an error when it tried to retrieve information from the COM+ catalog. This event error message can be found on the COM+ routing server. Because of this, the COM+ CLB service will stop and might become corrupted. CLB will fail for all CLB-enabled components until this problem is resolved.

Note This problem can occur even if CLB is not used. By default, the CLB service is running in a typical Application Center 2000 Web cluster.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use the ACComPlusVerify tool to find and remove the invalid component. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Run the following command.
    ACComPlusVerify –v
You can also run the following command to keep a reference to the invalid components.
    ACComPlusVerify -v > ACComPlusOutput.txt
Note Depending on which applications were invalid, the applications may have to be reinstalled.
  2. Run the following command to remove the components.
    ACComPlusVerify -c -a
  3. Run the following command again to confirm that there are no longer any invalid components.
    ACComPlusVerify -v
  4. Restart the CLB service.
