A VSS backup application causes the Information Store service to crash repeatedly on an Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1-based server

SYMPTOMS

You install Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a server. When you back up the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) by using third-party applications, such as EMC Networker 5.0, the Information Store service (store.exe) process crashes repeatedly. Additionally, the following Event IDs are logged:

Event ID : 4999
Raw Event ID : 4999
Record Nr. : 2127
Category : General
Source : MSExchange Common
Type : Error
Message :
Watson report about to be sent to dw20.exe for process id: 1768, with parameters: E12N, c-rtl-AMD64, 08.01.0278.002, store.exe, EXWRITER.DLL, 468fa, c0000005, aa12, 08.01.0278.002

Download and install Update Rollup 5 for Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1.
