When you try to start a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 and that supports Windows Hardware Error Architecture error collection, the computer stops responding (hangs) during startup.

This problem occurs for one or more of the following reasons:

• A loop is handled incorrectly while the Windows Hard Error Architecture code is collecting Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) hardware error records.
• EFI hardware error records are not cleared from the nonvolatile random access memory (NVRAM).

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
