SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2008, you may receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:
Stop 0x00000050 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA during the shutdown process
Note Not all "0x00000050" Stop errors are caused by this problem. The issue occurs more frequently when BitLocker Drive Encryption is turned on.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because, during the shutdown process, memory manager tries to zero out all page files. However, memory manager incorrectly sets a wrong flag to the header of a Memory Descriptor List (MDL).This causes other drivers to be able to access the zeroed memory space.

RESOLUTION

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
