In PowerPoint 2007 or in PowerPoint 2003, a part of the background of a slide may be printed even if the background is not visible on the screen
Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Office
PowerPoint 2007 or in PowerPoint 2003, you create a shape whose width is equal
to the width of the slide. You fill the color of the shape. Then, you configure
the shape and the texture of the background. Next, you put the shape onto the
background. On the screen, the background becomes invisible because the
background is completely hidden behind the shape.
In this scenario,
when you use a color printer to print the slide, a small part of the background
is printed on the right edge of the slide. This small part of the background
may appear as if ruled lines were drawn.
This issue is caused by the combination of an error of the
Graphics Device Interface's (GDI) coordinate calculation and of the logic of
PowerPoint's coordinate calculation. Because of this combination, the shape is
drawn one dot-pixel smaller than the background. Because this issue is not
caused by the processes of the printing devices or of the printer drivers, this
issue may occur in several printers. However, this issue does not occur in
PostScript printers. This is because PostScript printers use a different
sequence in the printing process, and data is not sent through GDI.
