You cannot reinstall the Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 management server role on a computer on which the role has been installed and removed

SYMPTOMS

When you try to reinstall the Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 management server role on a computer on which the role was previously installed, the installation does not complete.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the uninstallation of the management server role did not successfully remove performance counters that the System Center Operations Manager 2007 components use. If those performance counters already exist, the installation cannot be completed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove the performance counters by using the following commands:
unlodctr "OpsMgr Config Service"
unlodctr "OpsMgr Config Service Per Agent"
unlodctr "OpsMgr DB Write Action Caches"
unlodctr "OpsMgr DW Synchronization Module"
unlodctr "OpsMgr DB Write Action Modules"
unlodctr "OpsMgr DW Writer Module"
unlodctr "OpsMgr SDK Service"
unlodctr "OpsMgr Web Console"

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
