Description of System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008

INTRODUCTION

This article discusses the limits of the support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 that System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) currently provides.

MORE INFORMATION

Installing the database components (Operations Manager and Date Warehouse databases) and reporting component (Reporting Server) of System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 on a SQL Server 2008 instance is currently not supported. Support plans for hosting the database and reporting components of System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 on a SQL Server 2008 instance in the near future are as follows:
  • We are working on a migration tool that will enable you to transition your database and your reporting platform from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008. This tool is expected to be available during the second half of 2009. The tool will enable you to upgrade the SQL Server platform from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 for hosting the Operations Manager database, the Data Warehouse database, and the Reporting Server (running on SQL Server Reporting Services 2005).
  • Installation of System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 database and reporting components on a new installation of SQL Server 2008 (not upgraded from SQL Server 2005) is not supported. Installation of these roles on a new installation of SQL Server 2008 will be supported in a future release of Operations Manager. There are no plans to support installing the database and reporting components of System Center Operations Manager 2007 (pre-SP1 version) on a SQL Server 2008 instance.
Operations Manager 2007 does provide monitoring capabilities for SQL Server 2008 database servers. The latest version of the SQL Server Management Pack is available from the Management Pack catalog. To obtain this management pack, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
