Issue that this hotfix package fixes
This hotfix package fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
You have Office 2003 Service Pack 3 applied. You use a Canon scanner to scan documents in Microsoft Office Document Scanning. If the Canon scanner has a display name that is longer than 30 characters, the document is not scanned. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Office Document Scanning has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you view the data in the error report, the report contains the following error signature:

Note This issue does not occur in Office 2003 Service Pack 2 or earlier.
