SYMPTOMS

You work in an organization that uses Microsoft Application Virtualization. In Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007, you open a template that is located on drive Q, and then you change the template. When you try to save the changes, the changes are not saved. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Office PowerPoint:

The file cannot be saved right now because the file is loaded by another user at the moment. You can wait a few moments and try the save again, or you can cancel this save and resave using a different file name. Try Again or Cancel.
When you click Cancel, you receive an error message that resembles the following error message:
Microsoft Office PowerPoint:

There was an error accessing Q:\O70669AF\Templates\1033\ContemporaryPhotoAlbum.potx

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the template file is marked as "application data" during the sequencing process. This behavior is the default behavior.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Save the modified template to a new location

When you save the changes to the template, save the template to a new location other than to drive Q. For example, save the template to the \Microsoft\Templates folder on the computer.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button
    Collapse this imageExpand this image
    Microsoft Office Button
, and then click Save As.
  2. In the Save in box, move to the following folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
  3. Click Save.

Note If you want to rename the template, type a new name in the File name box, such as MyTemplate.potx. Make sure that PowerPoint Template (*.potx) is selected in the Save as type box.
To use the new template in this example, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Microsoft Office Button
    Collapse this imageExpand this image
    Microsoft Office Button
    , and then click New.
  2. In the New Presentation dialog box, under Templates, click My templates.
  3. Click the new template, and then click OK.

Method 2: Do not mark templates as "application data" during sequencing

If you are an administrator, and you configure applications during the sequencing process in Microsoft Application Virtualization, make sure that you do not mark the PowerPoint 2007 templates as "application data."
