Symptom

When you try to run ASP.Net 2.0 on a FIPS enabled server you may receive an error similar to the following:

This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms.

Cause

ASP .Net 2.0 cannot run on FIPS enabled machines due to use of uncertified cryptographic providers.  This is a problem for the Web console component of Operations Manager 2007.

Resolution

To work around this issue, modify the configuration in the Web.config file as follows:
  1. In a text editor such as Notepad, open the Web.config file.
  2. In the Web.config file, locate the <system.web> section.
  3. In the system.web section add the following <machineKey>:

<machineKey decryption=”3DES” />

4.       Save the Web.config file.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
