SYMPTOMS

When you try to save a journal entry in Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2008 or Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2008, you receive the following error message:
The currency is violating the currency setup on one or more accounts.

CAUSE

This error is caused if a journal entry is created that contains more than one currency.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Use the Transfer Funds feature

To use the Transfer Funds feature, follow these steps:
  1. Click Banking.
  2. Under Start a Task, click Transfer Funds.
  3. In the Transfer Funds dialog box, under Transfer from, click the arrow next to Nominal name, and select the account where you want to withdraw funds.
  4. Under Transfer to, click the arrow next to Nominal name and select the account where you want to deposit funds.
  5. In the Amount box, enter the value of the funds you want to transfer.
  6. Click Transfer.

Note You can transfer funds between any two bank, credit card or financial accounts, except stock asset accounts and accounts linked to HM Revenue & Customs.

Note Every transfer is entered into the nominal activity of each account. After you record a transfer, you cannot delete it. If a transfer is entered incorrectly, you can edit it or mark it void.

Method 2: Change the currency of the journal entry

To change the currency of the journal entry, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Journal Entry dialog box.
  2. In the Currency list, click the second currency being used in the journal entry.

Note By default, the journal entry screen uses the United Kingdom pound (GBP) as the currency.
