Using the legacy DTS Designer that ships as part of the SQL Server 2005 Feature Pack may fail on Windows Vista and Windows 2008 operating systems. Â Â You may receive an error similar to the following:
Â
Microsoft Visual Studio:
Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
Â
You may see a blank DTS Designer window after the error is shown.
The cause of this problem is a technology called DEP - Data Execution Prevention.
There is a fix as part of the SQL 2005 SP3 feature pack download for this problem.
