Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 does not support the Irish and Welsh locales

SYMPTOMS

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 does not support the Irish and Welsh locales. This occurs because the Irish and Welsh locales do not exist in the Rgnlstng.xms file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, apply the following update:
  • 969421  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=969421/ ) Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 hotfix package (Wssmui.msp): April 28, 2009

Limitation

After you install this Hotfix package, you will encounter various performance issues when you use Irish and Welsh locales on a SharePoint deployment that is installed on Windows Server 2003.

To work around these issues, use one of the following methods:
  • Use Irish and Welsh locales on a SharePoint deployment that is installed on Windows Server 2008.
  • Use locales other than Irish and Welsh, for example English, on a SharePoint deployment that is installed on Windows Server 2003.

Note If you use this method, the calendar, currency, date, and time will not appear localized to Welsh or Irish standards because an alternative locale, for example English, was selected.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
