In Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or in Microsoft SQL Server 20088, when you run index-related dynamic management views (DMVs), you receive inconsistent results of statistical information. For example, you may receive inconsistent results in the following scenario.

• The following two queries return the same number of rows:

  select * from sys.dm_db_missing_index_groups

  select * from sys.dm_db_missing_index_details

• The following query returns many rows:

  select * from sys.dm_db_missing_index_group_stats

• The following two queries return no records:

  select * from sys.dm_db_missing_index_details
  where index_handle not in 
  (select index_handle from sys.dm_db_missing_index_groups)
  

  select * from sys.dm_db_missing_index_groups
  where index_handle not in 
  (select index_handle from sys.dm_db_missing_index_details) 
  

• The following query returns many rows:

  select * from sys.dm_db_missing_index_group_stats
  where group_handle not in
  (select index_group_handle from sys.dm_db_missing_index_groups )
  

In this scenario, when you query the sys.dm_db_missing_index_group_stats DMV, you receive many orphan entries. Additionally, the orphan entries increase every time that you run the query.
