Manually moved indent markers result in misaligned text when opening in legacy PowerPoint version
Source: Microsoft Support
RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION DIRECTLY FROM WITHIN THE MICROSOFT SUPPORT ORGANIZATION. THE INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN IS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, OR IS INTENDED SUPPLEMENT OTHER KNOWLEDGE BASE INFORMATION.
When using PowerPoint 2003 or earlier to open a presentation which was created in PowerPoint 2007, text may be indented incorrectly.
The indent sliders on the ruler were used to modify indent for only one line in the text box. PowerPoint 2007 includes support for multiple tab stops within the same text box.
Additionally, the Compatibility Checker in PowerPoint 2007 will not offer a warning that these tabs will be lost when saving to an earlier format.
Note This feature was not available in earlier versions.
Three workarounds are available for this issue:
Option 1Use the Paragraph dialog to adjust indent for the entire text box.
- With the text box selected, click Home > Paragraph >Dialog Launcher.
- Specify the desired indent values and click OK.
Option 2Select all text in the text box before using the indent sliders on the ruler. This will modify the indent level for all text in the text box.
Option 3With the insertion point on the line you want to modify, click Home > Paragraph > Increase List Level or Decrease List Level to manually modify the indent.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
