You cannot use 2007 Office applications to open or edit content in a Web application that uses forms-based authentication
You create a Web application that hosts a SharePoint site that uses forms-based authentication. You cannot use 2007 Microsoft Office applications to open or edit content that is hosted in the Web application.
For example, if the application is configured to use an Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) HTTP module class during forms-based authentication, you cannot fully use all the client integration features in SharePoint.
To resolve this problem in Windows Vista, install Windows Vista Service Pack 2, which is released on July 01, 2009. Also, apply the 2007 Office system hotfix package that is dated April 30, 2009.
To resolve this problem in Windows XP, apply the 2007 Office system hotfix package that is dated April 30, 2009.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
