On This Page

SYMPTOMS

You perform an in-place or gradual upgrade from an earlier version of GroupBoard Workspace to Microsoft GroupBoard Workspace 2007. However, during the upgrade process, a memory leak may occur on the server. After the upgrade is complete in this situation, the connection to the content database may fail, and therefore you may receive an error message. Additionally, the upgrade process itself may fail because of a memory leak.

How to deploy software upgrades for GroupBoard Workspace 2007

To deploy the upgrade for GroupBoard Workspace 2007, use one of the following methods.

Note The method that you use depends on whether you selected Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Office SharePoint Server 2007 as the upgrade type.

Caution This upgrade does not fix the corrupted GroupBoard Workspace sites that are in an incomplete state because of the error that is described in the “Symptoms” section. Before you follow these steps, you must restore the server to the state that it was in before your previous upgrade. SharePoint and GroupBoard must both be installed and functional.

Method 1: Your SharePoint upgrade type is an in-place upgrade

  1. Complete the upgrade process for the SharePoint product by running the SharePoint Products and Technology Configuration Wizard. The wizard appears automatically after you install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Office SharePoint Server 2007.
  2. Install GroupBoard Workspace 2007.
  3. Double-click the upgrade program that you downloaded to your local hard disk.
  4. Double-click the .msp file that you extracted from the upgrade program, and then follow the instructions.
  5. Open a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

cd %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN stsadm.exe –o upgrade –inplace

Method 2: Your SharePoint upgrade type is a gradual upgrade

  1. To complete the process on the Central Administration SharePoint site, run the SharePoint Products and Technology Configuration Wizard. The wizard appears automatically after you install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Office SharePoint Server 2007.
  2. Open the SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration site, and then click the Operations tab. In the Upgrade and Migration section, click the Site content upgrade status link.
  3. Click the Begin upgrade link. This link appears next to the URL for the earlier version.
  4. On the Set Target Web Application page, provide the required information, and then click OK.
  5. Open a command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

    cd %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN stsadm.exe –o upgrade –sidebyside –url <url> -sitelistpath <Path for XML file>

For the -url parameter, specify the URL of the Web application that you want to upgrade. For the -Sitelistpath parameter, specify the path for an XML file that lists site collections of the upgrade target.
Note This XML file is necessary later in this procedure. Therefore, you may want to save this file to your computer.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288400.aspx (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288400.aspx)
  6. Install GroupBoard Workspace 2007.
  7. Double-click the upgrade program that you downloaded to your local hard disk. Double-click the .msp file that you extracted from the upgrade program, and then follow the instructions.
  8. Repeat step 5. The upgrade process starts for each GroupBoard Workspace site on the server.
