SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 installed on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2.
  • You run the Web Server Certificate Wizard in IIS Manager to create a new certificate.
  • On the Geographical Information page, you view the following list of available country codes for Serbia:
    • SP (This indicates Serbia alone.)
    • YU (This indicates Serbia and Montenegro.)
In this scenario, the certificate provider declines to issue a new certificate regardless of the country code that you select.

Note For more information about how to create a new server certificate, see the "More information” section.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an error in the Web Server Certificate Wizard. The correct country code for Serbia is "RS."

Note For more information about country names and code elements, see the “More information” section.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, apply the following hotfix. After you apply the hotfix, SP and YU are removed from the Country/Region list and RS is added to the Country/Region list. Then, you can select RS as the country code for Serbia.

Hotfix information
