SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 Standard Edition or Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 Standard Edition installed on a computer that has two quad-core processors.
  • You enable the hyper-threading feature.
  • You try to access a Web site in Commerce Server 2007 Standard Edition or in Commerce Server 2009 Standard Edition.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Server Error in '/' Application.
There are too many processors on this computer.
Commerce Server Standard Edition supports a maximum of 2 processors per computer.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current Web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
However, Commerce Server 2007 Standard Edition and Commerce Server 2009 Standard Edition can each support as many as two physical processors. Additionally, the processors can have hyper-threading enabled.

Note This problem does not occur if you disable the hyper-threading feature.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an error in the Csboot.dll file. This error causes Commerce Server to think that the server has 16 processors even though the server has two quad-core processors with hyper-threading enabled. Commerce Server 2007 Standard Edition and Commerce Server 2009 Standard Edition cannot have more than two physical processors on each server.
