The Windows SharePoint Services Search service does not start when the fully qualified domain names of the server are used to configure a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 single server installation
The Windows SharePoint Services Search service does not start when the fully qualified domain names of the server are used to configure a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 single server installation. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Could not access the Search service configuration database.
Additionally, you see the following error message in the Application log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
Event Category: Gatherer
Event ID: 10034
Description:
Could not access the Search service configuration database.

Details:
The filename or extension is too long. (0x800700ce)
To resolve this issue, apply the following updates:
