The ServerConfigErrors rule in Pre-Upgrade Checker provides information about server-side files that are referenced in the content, but are not installed on the server. Without these files, the sites may not function correctly or the content may not display correctly. Also, upgrade or post upgrade issues may occur when these files are not available in the new version environment.

The ServerConfigErrors rule reports information about missing event receiver assemblies in the following format:
Assembly = assembly name, Version=assembly version, Culture=assembly culture, PublicKeyToken=assembly public key token, Count = reference count, Status = Missing


The ServerConfigErrors rule reports information about missing receiver assemblies in the following format:
site definition(s) are referenced by the content, but they are not installed on the web server:
name = Unknown, language = template language code, template id = template identifier, count = reference count, status = Missing


The ServerConfigErrors rule reports information about missing features in the following format:
Name = Unknown, Feature id = feature identifier, Reference count = reference count, Scope = Web, Status = Missing


The ServerConfigErrors rule reports information about missing setup files in the following format:
Path = [file path and name], Reference = reference count, Status = Missing


If missing files are listed, you can do one of the following:
  • Install the missing files on the server before you perform an in-place upgrade.
  • Build a new farm with the listed files installed.
  • Remove the content that references the missing files.

Note The ServerConfigErrors rule ships in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 October 2009 cumulative update. The ServerConfigErrors rule is not part of the original release of the Pre-Upgrade Checker that is shipped in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2.
