The FormsAuthenticationApplications rule in Pre-Upgrade Checker for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 provides information about forms-based authentication providers or WebSSO authentication providers that are referenced in a farm

SUMMARY

The FormsAuthenticationApplications rule in Pre-Upgrade Checker for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 provides information about forms-based authentication providers or WebSSO authentication providers that are referenced in a farm.

Note The FormsAuthenticationApplications rule ships in the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 cumulative update that was released in October 2009. This rule is not part of the original release of Pre-Upgrade Checker. The original release of Pre-Upgrade Checker ships in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2.

MORE INFORMATION

After you run Pre-Upgrade Checker, this rule provides information about forms-based authentication providers or WebSSO authentication providers that are referenced in a farm. Web applications that use forms-based authentication or WebSSO authentication are not updated automatically when you upgrade to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2010. Manual configuration steps are required in order to update the Web applications to support the registered authentication providers. Here is an example of the message that you receive:
URL = WebApp zone public URL, Zone = WebApp zone, Provider Type = Forms/WebSSO, Provider Name = provider name
Because of changes in how forms-based authentication is handled in SharePoint Server 2010, administrators have to manually configure the appropriate forms-based authentication providers or the WebSSO authentication providers in their environment after the upgrade, or when they build a new farm that uses these authentication providers.
