The Check Names feature in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 resolves names very slowly

SYMPTOMS

The Check Names feature in Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 resolves names very slowly. This problem occurs when WSS 3.0 resolves names from Windows NT 4.0 domains.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the following update:
  • 975002  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=975002/ ) Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Cumulative Update Server Hotfix Package (Sts-x-none.msp): October 27, 2009
After you install this update, WSS 3.0 ignores the names from Windows NT 4.0 domains when you check names.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
