Later updates do not match a calendar item that an Exchange Server 2007 user updates by using Exchange ActiveSync on a mobile device

SYMPTOMS

A Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 user updates a meeting request by using Exchange ActiveSync on a mobile device. However, later updates do not match the calendar item that the user updates by using Exchange ActiveSync. Therefore, the original meeting request is not removed from the recipients’ calendars. Additionally, later updates create new meeting requests in the recipients’ calendars. For example, consider the following scenario:
  • User A creates a single-instance meeting request in Microsoft Office Outlook. The time of the meeting request is from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M.
  • User A sends the meeting request to User B.
  • User B accepts the meeting request.
  • User A updates this meeting request by using Exchange ActiveSync on a mobile device. The new meeting request is from 9:00 to 10:00.
  • User A sends the update to User B.
  • User B accepts the update.
  • User A updates this meeting request in Outlook. The time of the updated meeting request is from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
  • User A sends the update to User B
  • User B accepts the update.
In this scenario, two meeting requests are created in User B's calendar. One request is from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. The other request is from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.

CAUSE

When you send an updated meeting request by using Exchange ActiveSync on a mobile device, the request does not include the PR_OWNER_APPT_ID property. Then, Exchange Server 2007 sets a value for the PR_OWNER_APPT_ID property that does not exist. This value does not match the original calendar item. Therefore, you experience the problem problem that is described in the "Symptoms" section.
