Error message when you use the SecureStorageBackup tool to restore encryption keys on a computer that is running Operations Manager 2007: "Invalid password!"

SYMPTOMS

You back up the encryption keys of the Root Management Server by using the SecureStorageBackup tool on a computer that is running Operations Manager 2007. However, when you try to restore the encryption keys by using the SecureStorageBackup tool in command-line mode, you receive the following error message:
Invalid password!

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the password that you created in the backup operation contains a dollar sign ($), an exclamation point (!), or a caret (^).

RESOLUTION

Follow the resolutions that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
