Consider the following scenario:
- You create
a project in Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1
(SP1).
- You perform
arithmetic on
64-bit pointers and then
pass the results
to an inline function
that expects an "int"
data
type.
- You enable
an optimization
option. Examples
of optimization options include
/O1, /O2, and
/Ox.
- You build the project for x64 platforms.
- You
run the application that is generated when you build the project.
In this scenario, unexpected
effects may occur at run time such as an application crash or incorrect program results.
This problem occurs
because the compiler
generates incorrect
64-bit machine code
during the code optimization phase.
