Consider the following scenario:

• The Failover Clustering feature is enabled on a computer that is running a localized version of Windows Server 2008. For example, the computer is running the Japanese version or the Chinese version of Windows Server 2008.
• The names of cluster resources use double-byte character set (DBCS) characters. For example, the network names, the cluster names, or the network adapter names are cluster resources that are set to use DBCS characters.

In this scenario, the DBCS characters are not written to the cluster log when the cluster log is generated by using the following command:

Cluster Log -g

The Cprepsrv.exe process is used to generate the cluster log. Because the Cprepsrv.exe process does not set a code page, the DBCS characters are dropped from the logs that are generated by this process.

• The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows Server 2008" section. MUM files and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.
