MS09-055: Cumulative Security Update of ActiveX Kill Bits
This problem occurs because Security Update 973525 sets some ActiveX Killbits which disable the Office Excel Add-in for SQL Server Analysis Services.
Hotfix information
This hotfix Setup program verifies the value of some registry entries. If the value is not 1024, the hotfix Setup program sets the value to 1024. The following registry entries are verified:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{15721A53-8448-4731-8BFC-ED11E128E444}\Compatibility Flags
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{DB640C86-731C-484A-AAAF-750656C9187D}\Compatibility Flags
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{3267123E-530D-4E73-9DA7-79F01D86A89F}\Compatibility Flags
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{27A3D328-D206-4106-8D33-1AA39B13394B}\Compatibility Flags
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

How to enable this hotfix
This hotfix installs a new version of the Reportbuilderaddin.dll file into the following folder:
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Solutions\Cube Analysis\Bin\
You must manually register this Reportbuilderaddin.dll file to enable this hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt window, type the following command, and then press Enter:
CD %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Solutions\Cube Analysis\Bin\
- Type the following command, and then press Enter:
Regsvr32 Reportbuilderaddin.dll
Note You should receive the following message:
Dll register server in Reportbuilderaddin.dll succeeded
- Type the following command, and then press Enter:
- Restart the computer.
Known issues
After you apply this hotfix, Excel Add-in for the SQL Server Analysis Services may not work as expected. For example, you cannot create new reports or edit existing reports. This problem occurs because a cached file of the old version of Excel Add-in for the SQL Server Analysis Services still exists.
To resolve this issue, you must delete the cached file. To do this, follow these steps:
- Close the Office Excel application.
- Search for the ReportBuilderAddInLib.exd file which is the cached file.
Note This file is usually in the %temp% folder of the user that is affected by this problem. For example, this file is in the %temp%\Excel8.0 folder. - Delete the ReportBuilderAddInLib.exd file.
