On Exchange Server 2007 or on Exchange Server 2010, e-mail messages seem to disappear when you try to move them to a mailbox folder

SYMPTOMS

On Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or on Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, you try to move messages from one mailbox folder to another folder. However, the messages disappear from view if you are using Microsoft Office Outlook in cached mode. If you try this operation by using Outlook in online mode or by using Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access or Microsoft Outlook Web App, the move operation does not finish. And, you receive the following error message:
Some items could not be moved. This may be because the folder has reached its size limit.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the folders to which you tried to move the messages were provisioned as managed folders on Exchange Server 2007 or on Exchange Server 2010. However, the folders were later un-provisioned, and they were no longer managed. The un-provisioning process does not set correctly the folder's ptagProvisionedFid property, and this prevents you from moving the messages to the un-provisioned folders.

STATUS

Microsoft is aware of the problem, and we are working on a fix for Exchange 2007 and for Exchange 2010. In the mean time, we ask that you do not un-provision managed folders.

The fix is intended to address the following issues:
  • Resolve the issue so that managed folders sets the ptagProvisionedFid folder property correctly when they are un-provisioned.
  • Include a tool to correct any folders that were already un-provisioned before the fix is applied so that their ptagProvisionedFid flags are set correctly.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Coexistence
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Enterprise
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Standard
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Standard Edition
