Article ID: 982841 - Last Review: October 18, 2010 - Revision: 3.0 Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2 contains hotfixes for the Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 issues that are fixed since the release of SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2. Note This build of the cumulative update package is also known as build 3.5.8081.00. We recommend that you test hotfixes before you deploy them in a production environment. Because the builds are cumulative, each new fix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server Compact 3.5 fix release. We recommend that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains this hotfix. How to obtain Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2A supported cumulative update package is now available from Microsoft. However, this update package s intended to correct only the problems that are described in this article. Apply this cumulative update package only to computers that are experiencing these problems. This cumulative update package may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by any of these problems, we recommend that you wait for the next SQL Server Compact 3.5 service pack that contains the hotfixes in this cumulative update package. If the cumulative update package is available for download, you will view a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the cumulative update package. Note If additional issues occur or if any troubleshooting is required, you may have to create a separate service request. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for this cumulative update package. For a complete list of Microsoft Customer Service and Support telephone numbers or to create a separate service request, visit the following Microsoft website: Microsoft Knowledge Base articles that discuss these hotfixes will be released as they become available. How to install the cumulative update package for 32-bit and 64-bit desktop versions of SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2To install the cumulative update package, follow these steps: - Download and locate the SSCERuntime-ENU.exe file.
- Double-click the SSCERuntime-ENU.exe file to start the extraction process.
- In the SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 Self-Extractor dialog box, specify the folder to contain the extracted files, and then click OK.
- Move to the extraction folder that you set in step 3.
- Double-click the SSCERuntime_x86-ENU.msi file or the SSCERuntime_x64-ENU.msi file, and then follow the setup instructions.
On 64-bit computers, install both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions of the SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 CU1 MSI files. Existing SQL Server Compact 3.5 applications may fail if the 32-bit version of the MSI file is installed on a 64-bit computer. Developers should attach both the 32-bit and the 64-bit MSI files together with their applications and install both on 64-bit computers. For more information, refer to Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 974247
(http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=974247)
or the Install.txt file that is extracted together with the MSI files. How to install the cumulative update package for SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2 for Windows CE 5.0 on Armv4i-based pocket PC devicesTo install the cumulative update package, follow these steps: - Download the cumulative update package for your system.
- Extract the .cab files from the cumulative update package.
- On the device, install the three .cab files.
How to uninstall the cumulative update package for 32-bit and 64-bit desktop versions of SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2To uninstall the cumulative update package, follow these steps: -
In Control Panel, open the
Add or Remove Programs
item.
Note If you are using Windows 7, in Control Panel, open the Programs and Features item. - Find the entry that corresponds to “Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 ENU†and “Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 X64 ENUâ€. Then, right-click each of them and select “Uninstall†to uninstall the cumulative update.
Because SQL Server Compact cumulative updates install the whole product, step 2 will also uninstall SQL Server Compact 3.5. If you want to install SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 again, you must install the MSI files one more time. You can download the MSI files at the following URL: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=e497988a-c93a-404c-b161-3a0b323dce24

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
