"You must specify a value for this required field" error message when you save an attachment in an Office SharePoint Server 2007 list item
Consider the following scenario. You install 2007 Microsoft Office Servers Service Pack 2. You save an attachment in a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 list item. However, you do not input anything in the Title field. In this scenario, you cannot save the attachment. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
"You must specify a value for this required field."
Note: This issue does not occur when 2007 Microsoft Office Servers Service Pack 1 is installed.
To resolve this issue, apply the following update:Â

Description of the SharePoint Server 2007 hotfix package (sts-x-none.msp): June 29, 2010
Note The hotfix package that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article 983307 does not address existing attachments without titles. However, you can save new attachments without titles. Also, you can upload attachments without titles in an existing list item.Â
Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
in the "Applies to" section.
