You may receive a "Timebomb expired" error message when you install Commerce Server 2002 Feature Pack 1 (FP1) when a Commerce Server 2002 FP1 Beta or Evaluation version is already installed

Article ID:884198
Last Review:November 5, 2007
Revision:1.4

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Feature Pack 1 (FP1) when you have the Commerce Server 2002 FP1 Evaluation or Beta version already installed, you may notice the following error message in your event log:
32768 Error
The evaluation period for Commerce Server 2002 has ended. Contact Microsoft to obtain a licensed version of Commerce Server 2000. Timebomb expired.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, you must remove Commerce Server 2002 FP1 Evaluation or Beta. Then, you must install the release version of Commerce Server 2002 FP1. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/commerceserver/bb643849.aspx (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/commerceserver/bb643849.aspx)
When you remove the beta version and you install the release version of Commerce Server 2002, you may experience problems and may still receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. If you do, review the Commerce Server 2002 FP1 setup log file and search for the following entry:
MSI (s) (B4:D4): File: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Commerce Server 2002\mscsadmin.dll; Won't Overwrite; No patch; Existing file is of an equal version
This entry may indicate that you have already installed Commerce Server 2002 FP1 on your computer. It may also indicate that files are left over from the beta version.

The following conditions may be true:
•Removal of Commerce Server 2002 FP1 Evaluation or beta version may fail and some files may be left behind.
•Some files are not updated when you remove the beta or Evaluation version.
Some files in the beta version are the same as the files in the release version of Commerce Server 2002 FP1. If you experience this behavior, you must remove any version of Commerce Server 2002 FP1 that appears in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

After you remove any version of Commerce Server 2002 FP1, run the following command at a command prompt to make sure that all files are removed:
msiexec /p C:\Temp\Webdrop\Unpatch.msp /qb!- /l*v C:\Temp\Fp1patch.log REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=amus REBOOT=ReallySuppress
Note The Unpatch.msp file should be in your Commerce Server 2002 FP1 package.

This command removes the remaining Commerce Server 2002 FP1 files. After you run this command, you can install the full version of Commerce Server 2002 FP1 on your computer and you will not receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

APPLIES TO
•Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Service Pack 1
